God without - God within

Georges Van Vrekhem's talk, SAWCHU, Auroville, 2010 January 5,

God without - God within Religions are based on a system which pretends to own the Divine and the way to meet Him. If one does not accept the system, always declared to be unique, one is barred from access to the Divine. Spirituality knows the Divine to be the All, present in all, in the atom as in the heart of the human. Thou art That.

Religions have long dominated and are still dominating in the West. Yet in the background of Western culture there has always been an occult movement, often persecuted, which held that God was to be found in the heart. To this movement belonged Neo-Platonism, Gnosticism, spiritual alchemy, Rosicrucianism, and many other underground movements.

In this talk Georges Van Vrekhem goes back to the roots of spirituality in the West: to the Greek mysteries, themselves fed by Egypt, the Middle East and India. He stresses the importance of the Socratic bifurcation and the crucial importance of Gnosticism, the original sister-movement of Christianity.
